Dr. Monica Saini is an internationally recognized expert in breast radiology, combining her U.S. training with over 10 years of patient care experience. She started her career in nursing, which shaped her compassionate approach to patient care. Dr. Saini completed a fellowship in women’s imaging and served as Chief of Breast Imaging at Santa Fe Imaging/Christus St Vincent Hospital from 2008 to 2016. She later became Medical Director of Automated Breast Ultrasound Systems at GE Healthcare, where she worked on early breast cancer detection, research, and international physician education.
In 2021, Dr. Saini opened the Breast Institute in Lower Hutt, Wellington NZ, with the vision of revolutionising breast care in New Zealand. Drawing on her vast U.S. experience, she created a 'one stop shop' where women can receive same-day mammogram results, have further imaging such as ultrasound or biopsy without needing to return to the GP, and consult with breast surgeons on-site. This model streamlines care, ensuring accessibility and affordability for all women.
Dr. Saini also served as Chief Medical Officer at Volpara Health Solutions, focusing on AI innovations in breast cancer detection. Since relocating to New Zealand in 2017, she remains active in both public sector breast health and as an advisor to Breast Cancer New Zealand Foundation

In addition to her role at BINZ, Lisa holds a position as a Professional Teaching Fellow at the University of Auckland's Department of Medical Imaging. This academic role allows her to pursue her passion for education by sharing her extensive knowledge and experience with both undergraduate and postgraduate students. She has a strong interest in continuing education for Medical Imaging Technologists (MITs) and is always exploring innovative technologies that contribute to breast cancer diagnosis.
Lisa lives in the Wellington region with her family of five. In her free time, she enjoys being outdoors, whether it’s watching her teenagers play sports or spending time in the garden.
